As Chief Data Scientist for the New York City Council, Alaa leads interdisciplinary teams of AI engineers, data scientists, and software engineers, designing production-grade AI infrastructure that powers legislative strategy and modern governance. His work spans statistical modeling, NLP architectures, workflow automations, and AI-enabled decision support tools.
Beyond his executive role, he regularly delivers talks and on AI deployment and institutional AI transformation. He holds a PhD in Physics focused on spreading processes in complex networks, which informs his approach to AI systems, information diffusion, and large-scale architecture design. A native New Yorker, he speaks English, Arabic, and Spanish.
